Kosuke Furukawa Director/Photographer
Kosuke Furukawa grew up in West Tokyo until his passion for film and photography compelled him westward to New York. After graduating from Tama Art University in Tokyo, Kosuke continued his studies in film production at CUNY Brooklyn College where he was drawn to the freer, dynamic creative environment of New York. Currently, Kosuke has written and directed six short films including "Getap!" which premiered as an Official Selection at the Rhode Island International Film Festival 2007. Kosuke is premiering another short "Uguisu" in the fall 2009. Uguisu or "warbler," which was filmed in a Brooklyn diner, focuses on an interpersonal synergy created by the various characters.
Though he continues to return to Japan to film short features and get some decent ramen, Kosuke is committed to developing his twin careers in film-making and still photography as a New Yorker. Though bringing a Japanese perspective to his work, it is the fusion of these two cultures and the struggle of living between them that Kosuke finds most interesting and inspiring.
